Add Pennsylvania’s former governor to the list of people publicly piling on the Philadelphia Eagles paltry 1-3 start.
Except Ed Rendell’s comments are making news for the wrong reasons. On a postgame show Sunday night, he referenced Flight 93 – the airline that crashed in a Pennsylvania field on 9/11 – when comparing what Eagles’ players must do to turn their season around.
“Somebody’s got to make a big hit. And then turn to everybody else and say, ‘Come on!’ When you’re taking a hill, someone looks back and says, ‘Let’s go.’ On Flight 93, that guy said – it will live in immortality – ‘Let’s roll.’ Somebody’s got to say that…”
One may presume Rendell meant nothing insensitive by the comparison. But the fact remains; there will never be a proper time to compare the acts of those brave passengers to athletes playing a game.
