Could E-Commerce Sites Like Gilt Groupe Have Flourished 10 Years Ago?

Following the success of Amazon, e-commerce sites have popped up like crazy all across the Internet but most of these sites may have never seen the light of day just 10 years ago.

“In 2001, you were encouraged not to use your real name online – it was a very different Internet back then,” said Fancy Hands CEO Ted Roden during last week’s IGNITION conference.

Roden goes on to explain that people didn’t trust using their credit cards to buy things online back then. They felt safer making purchases over the phone instead.

On the other hand, Gilt Groupe’s Kevin Ryan says that he could have launched this company years earlier and it would have been even more prosperous.

Roden and Ryan along with OpenSky’s John Caplan and Dollar Shave Club’s Michael Dubin talk about the state of e-commerce and how much the Internet has changed in just 10 years below:
