Ever since Dwyane Wade convinced LeBron James and Chris Bosh to join him in Miami the prevailing argument has been that you can’t just build a super star team and expect a slew of NBA titles to come overnight.That argument is once again ringing true as the Heat have lost three straight to the Boston Celtics and find themselves on the brink of elimination in the Eastern Conference Finals.
After the game, Wade revealed the biggest issue with his team’s play lately (via Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports):
“I never thought we would be in this situation.”
After all the criticism, hatred and playoff disappointments this Miami Heat team has endured, its second biggest star basically admits that the Big 3 formula was a cop out.
In joining forces, Wade, LeBron and Bosh figured they would be winning plenty of championships in no time.
There’s a tired narrative in sports about teams having to earn their way to a championship. Many, including the Heat’s Big 3, figured they could skip that process and redefine championship basketball.
Unfortunately for Miami, it hasn’t happened as quickly as they expected.
