We now have the specifics of the three-team trade that would send Dwight Howard to Brooklyn. And the haul is so utterly terrible for Orlando that it makes us question the validity of the entire rumour.
Here are the terms:
- Brooklyn Nets: Dwight Howard, Jason Richardson and Earl Clark
- Orlando Magic: Brook Lopez, Damion James, Sheldon Williams, Luke Walton and the Nets’ 2015, ’17 and ’19 first-round picks
- Cleveland Cavaliers: Quentin Richardson, Sundiata Gaines, Kris Humphries, as well as a first-round pick and $3 million from the Nets
So if you’re scoring at home, the Magic would go into 2012-13 with a starting lineup of Brook Lopez-Jameer Nelson-JJ Reddick-Hedo Turkoglu-Glen Davis. In addition, they’d have zero cap room and their two highest players in 2013-2014 would be Turkoglu at $12 million and Lopez at $17 million.
They’d also have three draft picks that probably wouldn’t be in the top 20 because the Nets are going to be a juggernaut with Dwight Howard.
That’s not just bad. That’s so bad that it makes us think this trade is way farther from completion than we realise.
That can’t actually be the trade. Orlando can’t actually accept that? Right?
