The Knicks are thinking about opening up lines of communication with he Magic, and are willing to trade Amare Stoudemire for Dwight Howard, Donny Marshall of Comcast SportsNet reports.First of all, don’t believe it for a second.
Marshall — a former NBA player who doubles as a TV analyst for the Celtics from time to time — reported the rumour on NBC SportsTalk yesterday, citing “someone close to the team.”
No one else is reporting it, and it really doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
The Knicks just traded for Tyson Chandler and gave him a four-year, $58 million contract. So an Amare-for-Dwight move would have to be coupled with a Chandler-for-someone move.
In addition, they aren’t going to blow up this nucleus until Baron Davis gets healthy and it’s clear that things aren’t going to get better.
Also, why would Orlando want to take Amare and his gimpy back and knees over the other offers on the table?
So yeah, this sounds like a bunch of crap.
But every once in a blue moon, a crazy, baseless rumour turns out to be true. So consider yourself warned.
