Photographer Stephane Missier aka Charles le Brigand came upon pyramids of sifted sand from Hurricane Sandy on the parking lot at Jacob Riis Park in The Rockaways, Queens. The 30-ft dunes were piled up by workers who sifted and shoveled sand from the surrounding areas after the devastation left by Hurricane Sandy in end of October 2012.

He managed to get a few shots of the eerie lunar landscape before “getting kicked out politely by a Sanitation Police officer.”

Based in New York City, Charles le Brigand is also the author of “100 Days of Summer,” a photo project capturing summer street life in the city.
