If you’ve always been envious of the scores of dog walkers in Central Park, there is now a way you can rent this dog, Ocho, and join them.On an earlier Saturday in June, Katherine Long brought Ocho, a Collie/flat-coated retriever mix, to Central Park, and charged $5 for dog-loving park patrons to rent him out for a 20-minute walk, according to local news website DNAInfo.
In two hours, Long recruited 12 walkers and raised $100.
Long plans to donate the proceeds from the project to Ruff Start Rescue, a nonprofit organisation that rescues dogs from abusive situations or high-kill shelters.
While Long’s idea obviously benefits Ruff Start Rescue, it also cheered up her customers.
“Every single person who stopped by had a great big smile on their face,” Long told DNAInfo. “I had families rent for their kids, couples rented who were considering adopting their own dog and, of course, the single guy used it as a ploy to perhaps attract a date.”
Ah, the single man walking a puppy scheme. Classic.
Long’s next rent-a-dog session will be June 30 and July 1st from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside the West 85th street pedestrian entrance.
