It’s a sad state of affairs when you need to leave your best friend at home if you want to go to the pub.

Thankfully, there are lots of venues in Sydney that let you bring dogs with you, particularly if they’re well behaved and on a leash.

You may already know some of these pubs, but you might not know that you can bring your dog along to them.

Here are ten of the best pubs in Sydney that are dog-friendly.

The Newport, Newport

It’s always busy here so get in early to grab a table and bit of space to park your puppy overlooking the water.

There’s plenty of food to choose from, like oyster and prawn platters from the Seafood Market, gourmet burger options and fish and chips from The Shack, Neapolitan wood-fired pizzas from Vinnies Pizzas, share platters and dishes of meats from The Kiosk rotisserie and lighter options like smoothies, snacks and pastries from the Kiosk Café.

The Duck Inn, Chippendale

The Duck Inn runs a doggy date night every Thursday, where staff give out free dog treats, and for the humans there are $5.50 house wines, pints for schooner prices and weekly cocktail specials.

Not to be confused with the Duck pub in Mosman which is not dog-friendly.

There are plenty of spots out back in the beer garden for you and your furry entourage. Serving up a range of bar snacks, tacos, burgers and pub mains, they also have free pool Monday to Friday, trivia on Wednesdays, and weekly gourmet meat tray raffles.

They also have a small “grocery and grog” shop which stocks a range of fine wines and spirits, craft brews, cheeses, meats, dips, and condiments. On Fridays they hold tasting sessions so you can try before you buy.

The Norfolk, Surry Hills

Head through the front bar to the leafy, colourful courtyard that’s just begging for an Instagram photo.

If you’re a Bloody Mary cocktail fan, make sure you try one, or more (responsibly) of The Norfolk’s crazy concoctions that are served in tomato puree tins and come with over-the-top garnishes.

They also serve up a mean assortment of tex-mex, and cheap booze like tap beers, hipster favourite Tecate tinnies, house wines and basic spirits which are $7 all day, every day.

Your dog is welcome in the courtyard, and you can order $6 pints, wine & basic spirits everyday from 6pm – 8pm.

If you’re peckish, a plate of antipasti or a pizza pairs well with one of their quirky signature cocktails like the Australia-themed Lamingtini with Absolut vodka, Kahlua, creme de mure, and coconut, or the American Pie with Jameson, apple, lemon, pomme verte, and vanilla.

It gets rowdy heading into the night which shy dogs may not like, so it’s probably best suited to an early afternoon outing.
