President Obama is setting a bad example to people everywhere, or so says the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.According to USA Today, the non-profit group believes the president needs to stop being photographed while eating unhealthy food. The organisation says that it sets a bad precedent for the country.

The group is calling for an executive order to ban “photo ops that depict the president, the first family, the vice president, and members of the president’s cabinet with unhealthful foods including processed meats that can cause cancer and obesity.”
News of this petition comes on the heels of a new report that warns 42 per cent of Americans could end up obese by 2030. As of 2010, 36 per cent of Americans are obese.
To be fair, Obama is in pretty good physical shape. According to his 2010 physical, the 6-foot-1, 181.3 pound president has a blood pressure of 107 over 71, well within the normal range, and his total cholesterol level is at 193. He also has 20/20 vision in both eyes.
It is true though that Obama is frequently photographed eating some less than healthy food, mostly on the campaign trail as he attempts to woo voters. And this, the PCRM says, is harmful.
“The White House would never set up a photo op of a president with a cigarette, so why show him eating foods that cause cancer,” said Dr. Susan Levin, the group’s director of nutrition education, in USA Today.
“Hot dogs, hamburgers, and other unhealthful foods kill more Americans each year than tobacco, and they cost taxpayers billions of dollars in health care,” she added. “The president can eat what he likes in private, but at orchestrated public events, our leaders are role models.”
