DIGITAL DETOX: Hotels Will Pay You To Leave Your Phone At Check-In

The premise is straightforward — when you check in to a hotel, surrender your electronics and the hotel gives you a break on your bill. It might be just the motivation you need to pull your face away from a screen for a bit.

Anne Tergesen writes in the Wall Street Journal that in exchange for your smartphones, laptops, and any other electronic knickknacks, many hotels are offering price breaks and old-fashioned fun, like board games and books, in return.

Tergesen cites a study by American Express that says 79% of travellers expect to remain connected all or some of the time on their next vacation. That hardly sounds like a vacation.

Hotels such as Petit St. Vincent Resort in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the
Mountain Sky Guest Ranch in Emigrant, Montana are offering gadget detoxes.

If this is something you might be interested in, check with your next hotel to see if they offer something like this.
