The modern workplace no longer consists of just hot-desking and free fruit for employees.
The traditional office is becoming less relevant, with the next generation of employees seeking work that fits in with their lifestyle — not the other way around.
As these trends continue to shape the future of work, one business is positioning itself to lead the pack.
Dexus, best known as a property developer and real estate investment trust, has a number of premium workplaces under its business Dexus Place.
Think WeWork but luxe, with a concierge service, car sharing options, childcare alternatives and onsite health and fitness classes.
How it works
While rooms and spaces at Dexus Place can be leased for casual bookings, the offering is enhanced for members who can access the all facilities as much as or little as needed, for a single all-inclusive fee.
There are four Dexus Place workspaces across Australia.
Two in Sydney, one on Bourke Street in Melbourne, and another in Brisbane’s CBD.
We took a look around two Dexus Place buildings in Sydney to see what it offers members.
In short: it impressed.
Here’s what we saw.
Here we are at Dexus Place on 1 Margaret Street, Sydney
The building is located right near Barangaroo and many local public transport options
Each location has been chosen for convenience and ease of accessibility. The design, as you will later see, also reflects the clientele the space is likely to attract.
Dexus Place users and their guests are greeted at the reception
Located on Level 5, the space boasts 14 meeting rooms, 3 training room, 3 formal boardrooms and a large auditorium, as well as a fully immersive studio and business lounge — most of which you’ll see soon.
People have the option to wait here before a meeting and take in the view
The lounge is also used as a workspace if you need to get some work done quickly between visits
And it has a kitchenette if you need a caffeine hit
Or to help cater for a private events.
Among 13 different spaces available at 1 Margaret, the immersive studio is by far the most impressive
We’ve called into Dexus Place in Brisbane. Hi guys!
With the ability to hold 20 people in a staggered seating arrangement, the wall-to-wall big screen allows users to take video calling to the next level
The studio is specially designed to ensure the meeting experience is collaborative no matter where your team is located.
Let’s take a look at the other rooms
Basic facilities such as showers, change rooms and lockers are available if you want to have a run around Darling Harbour before work. A daily towel service, bike servicing and maintenance are also a part of the deal in Dexus-managed buildings.
If a run isn’t on the cards, Dexus Place guests can also access other onsite health and fitness classes, wellbeing seminars and educational content, and exclusive discounts available through a community building portal.
The product testing room
You can see the recording devices on the ceiling.
The mirrored wall
And behind it!
I was fascinated to see this because, aside from police dramas on TV, I’d not been in one before. Businesses use this room to test a product on sample groups to gauge what consumers will think of it before taking it to market.
Moving on. Here’s a look at one of the three boardrooms
Connectivity is also a top priority with high speed Wi-Fi and ClickShare technology throughout the building. Even if you get in the elevator, your signal won’t drop out.
Some beautiful natural light
All rooms include essentials such as Wi-Fi, audiovisual equipment and refreshments at no extra cost.
That’s great to see
Dexus has enterprise-grade, high-definition voice solutions in each room to ensure everyone can hear and be heard clearly, as well as advanced audio technology that adapts to different room environments and cancelling unwanted background noise.
Smaller rooms are an option too. There are a handful of rooms similar to this
All meeting rooms have acoustic panelling and frosted decals to ensure guests have maximum privacy.
Here’s a larger training room. It can hold 35 people
The company says Dexus Place aims at providing “a tailored extension to your work environment”. With its many and varyious-sized meeting spaces capable of hosting anything from one-on-one meetings to staff training, business workshops or private events.
The flexible configurations also mean rooms don’t have to be used for their original purpose and can cater to the specific needs.
Added benfits for Dexus Place users go beyond the walls, with this Australia Post parcel service…
A Go Get carsharing car spot, as well childcare partnerships
Now you have seen around there, let’s take a quick look at Dexus Place at 1 Farrer Place, Sydney to compare. Welcome
On Level 15, it has less rooms but larger spaces.
One Farrar also hosts our spectacular function terrace which offers amazing views over the city.
As you can already see this venue has the same Dexus Place feel with a twist
Located in the heart of Sydney’s financial districts Dexus Place One Farrer reflects its modern and industrial surroundings.
Here is the biggest draw card of this workspace: The Terrace
The Terrace is one of the few private balconies available in Sydney, and makes for an ideal venue for any type of function. It can accommodate up to 120 guests, and up to 220 when combined with the auditorium.
Check out the view
Inside, you can see the decor is slighty different to 1 Margaret to cater to the nearby clientele of the financial district
The boardroom offers similar features with one added bonus…
The walls double as whiteboards
The whiteboard-painted walls can take meetings to a new level, perfect for collaborative workshops.
The range of rooms available is just as diverse
The kitchen space here is much larger, enabling guests to hold business lunches
The Dexus Place catering service is tailored to individual needs and can be served in the private of a meeting room or during events on the Terrace.
Lunch is served
