Deron Williams’ decision to re-sign with the Nets and not go to the Dallas Mavericks was affected by the fact that Mark Cuban wasn’t present at his meeting with the Mavs, Williams told the New York Times.Cuban was not at Williams’ meeting because he was in L.A. shooting his reality TV show Shark Tank.
Williams said Cuban’s absence definitely affected his decision and added:
“A lot of the questions that me and my agent had for them really didn’t get answered that day — you know, pertaining to the future. And I think if he was there, he would have been able to answer those questions a little bit better. Maybe would have helped me.”
Williams said his biggest question is what the Mavericks were going to do when Dirk Nowitzki retired, a question Williams thought Cuban could answer best.
Ultimately he chose the Nets because he felt they had the brighter future.
