More People Tweeted About The Presidential Debate Than About Any Other Event In US History

Wednesday night’s presidential debate was the most tweeted-about event in U.S. history, according to Twitter’s Government and Politics team.

The number of tweets about the debate — the first head-to-head matchup between President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney — surpassed those for both the Republican National Convention and the Democratic National Convention — a fairly remarkable feat considering that both events were roughly four days long.

Twitter Gov hasn’t revealed just how many tweets were sent about the debate, but just after the debate began, they tweeted that the number of tweets about had already passed 2 million.

In the 24 hours leading up to the debate, there had already been twice as many tweets about it than there had been about all of the 2008 presidential debates combined.
