Deaf Baby Hears mum's Voice For The First Time

Baby Jonathan was born deaf. At 8 months old he received a cochlear implant, allowing him to hear sound for the first time. The reaction to hearing his mum’s voice is truly heartwarming

A cochlear implant is an electronic device that is surgically placed under the skin behind the ear. Sound first enters a microphone. This is sent over a transmitter to the implant that turns digital information into electrical impulses. The electrical signals are sent down to an electrode array, which stimulates nerves and sends sound information to the brain.
