After premiering a few weeks back at San Diego Comic-Con, and subsequently getting leaked online, 20th Century Fox premiered the worldwide debut of the “Deadpool” trailer Tuesday night on Conan.
And boy is it incredible.
Starring Ryan Reynolds, “Deadpool” will tell the origin story of Marvel’s most twisted antihero Wade Wilson who goes from being a mercenary to superhuman after an experiment leaves him with healing abilities and a new outlook on life.
A lot of the credit on this film goes to Reynolds, who has been trying to get the film made since he starred as the character in 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” movie. After test footage for a new Deadpool film went viral, 20th Century Fox finally got on board.
It really couldn’t be a better time for a Deadpool film. Over the past decade, the Marvel antihero has become one of the most popular comic book characters online. You can find him in various memes and all over Tumblr. One reason for that is his accessibility. Since he’s a comic character who’s aware he is one, he gets all your pop culture references, and has become a Comic-Con favourite.
“Deadpool” will be in theatres February 12, 2016.
