Congressman who unseated Eric Cantor says he never received congratulatory phone call

The congressman who unseated Eric Cantor said this week that he has not spoken to the former House majority leader since defeating him in a 2014 Virginia primary.

In an interview with Business Insider, Rep. David Brat revealed Cantor did not call to congratulate him on his upset victory.

Brat only said Cantor reached out to him with a “little” gesture, but would not elaborate on what it was.

The Virginia Republican added that the two haven’t spoken since the primary.

“No, no, no, no,” Brat said.

He added: “I didn’t even know him. I didn’t really know him.”

Brat stunned the political world in the summer of 2014 when he defeated Cantor in the primary election.

In his newly released book, “American Underdog,” Brat documented his first year in Congress and outlined how he defeated one of the most powerful men in Washington.
