Dailies: The Show Will Go On In "The Hills"


  • Although Lauren Conrad won’t be returning for a sixth season of The Hills, MTV says the show will go on without her. Former Laguna Beach star Kristin Cavallari may replace her. (E! Online)
  • Chris Noth has signed a seven-figure deal to reprise his role of “Mr. Big” in the Sex and the City sequel. (Variety)
  • DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg announced he has extended his employment contract for another four years to April 22, 2014, with much of his pay dependent on DWA’s stock price. (THR)
  • Clear Channel, the nation’s largest owner of radio stations, is cutting 590 jobs, including some on-air personalities, in a second round of mass layoffs this year amid pressure from the recession and evaporating advertising budgets. (Yahoo! Finance)
  • Universal’s Illumination Entertainment has picked up Flanimals, a children’s book series by Ricky Gervais, and will turn the project into a 3-D animated feature with Gervais voicing the main character. (Variety)
  • Val Kilmer and Faye Dunaway will join Hilary Duff in Provinces of Night, now filming in Wilmington, N.C. (Production Weekly)
  • ESPN continues recruit big-name directors to create hourlong documentaries for the channel’s 30 for 30 series. Yesterday the channel added The Kid Stays In The Picture director Brett Morgan, Hancock and The Kingdom helmer Peter Berg, Hoop Dreams’ Steve James and Bull Durham director Ron Shelton. (THR)
  • NBC is taking a big gamble with the reality show Face the Ace, hosted by The Sopranos star Steve Schirripa. It’ll begin airing this August on Saturdays. (Variety)
  • Anheuser-Busch InBev NV has informed NBC that it cut its advertising budget and will only spend about half as much on its coming Olympics advertising package as it did on the previous one. (Reuters)
  • USA continued its streak has the highest-rated ad-supported cable network, averaging 3.2 million total viewers for the week ending April 26, topping TNT by a margin of just 254,000 people. (THR)
  • Wolverine’s Danny Huston will play Poseidon in Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures’ Clash of the Titans, which began filming on Monday in London. Huston joins a cast that already boasts Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Sam Worthington and Gemma Arterton. (THR)
