Critics love 'Mission: Impossible - Fallout' as much as Tom Cruise loves outrageous stunts

Critics can’t stop gushing over “Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” which comes to theatres July 27.

“Fallout” is the sixth film in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, which started with its first film in 1996, and stars Tom Cruise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt. “Fallout” also stars Simon Pegg, Angela Bassett, Alec Baldwin, Vanessa Kirby, and Henry Cavill (with the famous mustache that had to be edited out of “Justice League”).

Right now, “Fallout” has a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Tom Cruise has definitely come a long way since last year’s disastrous “The Mummy” remake that was so unsuccessful Universal canceled its Dark Universe movies series. “Fallout’s” intense, non-stop action that’s comparable to 2015’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” makes an otherwise silly premise and long running time (it’s two and a half hours) totally worth it. Some critics have even said it’s one of the best action movies of all time, and certainly one of (if not the) best action movies of the year.

Here’s what critics are saying about “Mission: Impossible – Fallout”:

“The thriller version of comfort film. It’s something we can return to with complete confidence in what we’re getting into.”

Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times

“To say that ‘Fallout’ is a great action movie purely in relation to others would be unfair. The action sequences are truly fantastic, and include a breathtaking car-chase through Paris, a helicopter chase over the mountains on the border of Kashmir that I watched with my fingers covering my eyes, and the requisite rooftop acrobatics that caused Cruise to sprain his ankle during filming.”

Anne Cohen, Refinery 29

“Not since Fury Road have such viscerally practical effects been put to better use by such deliriously impractical people.”

David Ehrlich, IndieWire

“All of their derring-do is choreographed, shot, and acted in a way that looks real, in a way that puts most of this summer’s other action-adventure blockbusters to shame.”

Angie Han, Mashable

“Yes, Fallout is bonkers and you’ll want to be caught in its preposterous, but intense blast radius.”

Kimber Myers, The Playlist

“Buying a ticket for a Mission: Impossible movie means surrendering to its specific brand of charm – the same charm to watching Cruise run so fast that it seems he might just take flight.”

Karen Ham, SlashFilm

“Clearly the best ongoing action franchise in the world.”

Matt Singer, ScreenCrush

“Even with its faults, Mission Impossible: Fallout delights the audience with the over-the-top excitement and armrest gripping action.”

Ashley Menzel, We Live Entertainment

“Mission: Impossible – Fallout is going to blow audiences out of their chairs. The action scenes are stupefyingly awesome.”

Julian Roman, MovieWeb

“Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to have a bloomin’ good time with Cruise and co.”

Lewis Knight, Daily Mirror (UK)

“You’ll leave the theatre delightfully exhausted after spending almost the entire length … frantically piecing together the plot, feeling your adrenaline pumping during the action scenes, and gripping the seat from constant tension.”
