As temperatures climb in Manhattan, so do murders apparently. With temperatures reaching nearly 100 degrees during the past five days, New York has seen 16 murders sweep through the city, the New York Post reported.
Even though the murder rate is on pace to be the lowest in years, it’s a bit unsettling that five of the 16 murders were reported just since Friday.
One of the first deaths reported happened Friday night at Valentino Fashion in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. A man named Mohamed Gabeli was found shot inside the clothing store, NY1 reported at the time.
Three murders involving children were also reported last week.
Tenika Revell, a suspected hooker and ex-convict, called 911 on Friday night and told the operator she killed her 9-year-old son and took pills to end her own life, the New York Daily News reported.
Revell reportedly hit the boy in the head with a hammer.
The day before, Lisette Bamenga, forced her young son and daughter to drink windshield de-icer before sealing the apartment and turning on the gas stove, the Daily News reported last week.
Three men were also shot dead in Queens early Saturday morning, NY1 reported at the time.
Police reportedly found 63 rounds at the scene. They believe the suspect might have used an AK-47 assault rifle, according to NY1.
