Adding to the growing list of studies suggesting commuting is bad for your health, researchers from from Lund University in Sweden have found that workers who commute to work by car, bus, or train, are more likely to suffer from stress, poor sleep, and exhaustion than those who walk or bike to the office (via The Daily Mail). The study, which surveyed 21,000 full-time employees, aged 18 between 18 and 65, in Sweden, also found that commuters who traveled longer distances experienced more adverse health effects.
But before you rip up your bus pass, scientists say further research is needed to identify exactly how commuting causes bad health since many other variables including income, family background, and environmental factors were not accounted for.
