The National Retail Federation asked 125 corporations which cities ranked highest for organised shoplifting — where people don’t just steal a single item, but take in bulk and rake in the profits. The areas share a common theme: large, national roadways that provide easy access to stores and a good escape route.

The cities are:

  • Chicago
  • Houston
  • Dallas
  • Los Angeles
  • Miami
  • New York City
  • Atlanta
  • Baltimore
  • San Francisco
  • Phoenix

Here’s a graph from the NRF showing what happens once thieves get their hands on stolen items:
