Looking to break into magazine publishing? The Village Voice picked up on a JournalismJobs.com posting published on Wednesday could be for you. Or probably not.
The Church of Scientology-run Freedom Magazine is looking for an Investigative Reporter:
“Freedom Magazine is looking for experienced investigative reporters for short and long-range freelance assignments. Freedom, published by the Church of Scientology since 1968, covers human rights and social betterment issues and does investigative reporting in the public interest. Current assignments are based in Los Angeles, New York and Southeastern Texas.
Please send your resume to [email protected]”
As part of its continued coverage of Marty Rathbun and the close surveillance of Rathbun kept by the Church, the Voice points out that this follows a reported recent method of surveillance to “investigate” targets of the organisation.
This also isn’t the first time the Church has hired reporters to go after individuals, according to the newspaper:
“In 2009, the St. Petersburg Times hit Scientology with the most powerful expose in years. Its authors, Joe Childs and Thomas C. Tobin, then found themselves the target of Freedom Magazine, which specifically hired reporters, one a Pulitzer Prize winner, to go after the St. Pete Times duo. The newspaper decided not to cooperate with the hired guns.”
At least it’s better than washing Tom Cruise‘s car?
