Chrysler saluted the U.S. Army in its latest Super Bowl ad for Jeep, titled “America Will Be Whole Again.”
The car manufacturer has made a name for itself as a Super Bowl advertiser. Given Eminem’s appearance in 2011 and then Clint Eastwood’s headline-inducing “Halftime In America” last year, there was a lot of pressure for a good Super Bowl spot this year. And, unlike their advertising counterparts who released teasers and social campaigns leading up to the game, Chrysler remained silent about what it would be doing for the game.
While some viewers might have been thrown by Oprah’s quote at the beginning of the two-minute long spot — not quite what you’d expect for a car ad — it appropriately introduced a commercial that served as a thank you letter to the U.S. army.
The moving over voice says:
“There will be a seat left open, a light left on, a favourite dinner waiting, a warm bed made. There will be walks to take. Swings to push, and baths to give. On your block. At the school. In your church. Because in your home, in our hearts, you’ve been missed. You’ve been needed. You’ve been cried for, prayed for. You’ve been the reason we push on. Half the battle is just knowing this is half the battle because when you’re home, you’re more than a family. We are a nation that is whole again.”
