The Super Bowl ad that made everyone stop and stare last night was the Chrysler ad for its Dodge Ram truck brand, titled “Farmers.” It utilized the Paul Harvey poem “So God Made A Farmer.”
But Slate points out that the idea for the ad appears to have been copied from a 2011 ad made by Farms.com, an agricultural news site.
As the Ram trucks web site points out, it was an act of homage, not plagiarism. The company borrowed the idea with Farms.com’s permission. “It’s not a rip, it’s keeping the idea alive,” a company exec tweeted.
