China Has Finally Demolished The House It Built A Road Around

Last week we brought you the remarkable story of Luo Baogen, a local man who refused to move from his home in China’s Zhejiang province when the local government decided to build a highway over his house.

Unable to convince Luo to leave his home (he said the amount of money offered wasn’t enough for him to build a new home), the authorities did the only rational thing — and built the road around his house.

According to the AP, local officials say that they have now demolished the house after Luo accepted a 260,000 yuan ($41,000) offer, around $6,000 more than what he had originally been offered. The AP was unable to reach Luo and it was unclear if he had faced additional pressure to leave the home.
