The Major League Baseball season ended just three days ago.
That also means Albert Pujols’ career as a St. Louis Cardinal may have ended Friday night.
Naturally, the odds on Pujols 2012 landing spot are already out. And the early favourite won’t please Cardinals’ fans:
Chicago Cubs 7/4
St. Louis Cardinals 2/1
Los Angeles Angels 9/2
Washington Nationals 7/1
New York Yankees 12/1
Boston Red Sox 12/1
Of course, this doesn’t necessarily reflect the likelihood of where Pujols will play next season. These odds reflect the action of the betting public.
The Cubs have a wide fanbase, meaning it’s more likely for someone to bet on Chicago regardless of the team’s likelihood to actually sign their rival first baseman.
These odds also come out less than a week after the Cubs new president of baseball operations, Theo Epstein, hinted that his team wouldn’t be pursuing any high-priced free agents.
But it will be interesting to see how Tony LaRussa’s unexpected retirement announcement affects Pujols’ decision.
