Famed Italian marque Maserati has always been known for style and performance. On the road, there aren’t very many cars that are faster than one of its models. But now they are starting a maritime tradition.
The captain, Giovanni Soldini, said that he hit a number of storms and weather systems on the way to New York which made him decide to not have the run considered for a record. He believes that the ship can easily beat the time it set (nearly four days) in better weather conditions.
As of right now, the VOR70 Maserati is the only ship in its class that has attempted this journey, so it would be the de facto record holder no matter what. That he won’t get the time verified really shows the confidence he has in this ship.
The VOR70 is as exotic as anything with the Maserati name attached to it. This 70-foot racing boat is made of carbon fibre and can reach speeds of 40 knots without any engine assistance.
