‘The Today Show’ released a quick sneak peek this morning of Whitney Houston‘s final film before her untimely death. The movie, “Sparkle,” is a remake of the 1976 film of the same name.
Houston plays Emma, the mother of three girls who all have extraordinary singing talents. Emma was a singer at a young age but couldn’t fulfil her dreams. Now she’s worried her daughters will follow her in the same unsuccessful footprints.
The film also co-stars “American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks, Derek Luke and Cee-Lo.
Matt Lauer sat down with Kathie Lee Gifford and guest co-host Pat O’Brien for a talk about the new film. They mentioned that Houston showed “strength in spite of her weakness” in the trailer and that anticipation for the film would be high.
O’Brien also expressed regret that he could not help the late singer during her darkest times.
“Sparkle” will be released August 17th.
