On Sunday, Tiger Woods completed his first PGA Tour event of the season. And like the 56 PGA Tour events before it, Tiger did not win. In fact, he finished -1, tied for 44th, 15 strokes behind the winner, Bubba Watson.
Bubba Watson? Yes. It was Watson’s second career win, both of which have come in the last 12 months. And that is two more than what Tiger has won since the end of the 2009 season. Something that is becoming quite common on the PGA Tour.
There have now been 57 PGA Tour events since Tiger last posted a victory (BMW Championship, Sept., 2009). In those 57 events, there have been 44 different winners. And during this drought, 18 golfers post their first career victory.
And of the 57 events since Tiger’s last win, 12 players have won more than once. That group is led by Jim Furyk, the only golfer with three wins since the last time Tiger hosted a trophy. Here are the golfers with multiple wins in the last 16 months, and their number of career victories as compared to Tiger’s 71. Not exactly a who’s who of household names.
