Piers Morgan’s big, last-minute, live sit down interview with Charlie Sheen last night resulted in huge ratings for the show, beating Morgan’s much-hyped premiere interview with Oprah Winfrey in demo viewers.
Morgan clocked in 1.346 million total viewers and 561, 000 demo viewers.
How does this chalk up? Rachel Maddow saw 1.198 million total viewers and 383,000 in the demo and Fox powerhouse Sean Hannity 2.621 million and 751,000 respectively.
Making the ratings even more noteworthy is the fact Morgan’s show had exactly 4 minutes to promote Sheen’s appearance. Cue debate over power of social media — news of Sheen’s appearance blazed across Twitter shortly after Morgan’s first Tweet.
Sheen’s interview, meanwhile, marks a strong month for Morgan who is up 50% in the demo 25-54 compared to a year ago (237k vs. 158k), and up 21% in total viewers compared to a year ago (812k vs. 672k).
