The New York Post is reporting that CBS is eyeing Charlie Rose for the Early Morning anchor spot in an effort to revamp the struggling show and give it a similar format to Morning Joe ahead of the 2012 election season.
Sound familiar? That’s because this was the exact storyline of last year’s (tragically underappreciated) film Morning Glory in which crusty old newsman Harrison Ford is convinced to do a morning show alongside Diane Keaton in an effort to kick it out of last place.
That Early Morning hopes to imitate Morning Joe‘s success is not exactly a surprise.
Earlier this year CBS News, which underwent a change of command at the top, hired away longtime Morning Joe producer Chris Licht and there were rumours Joe and Mika might follow. Those rumours were stamped out when it was revealed the two had recent resigned contracts with MSNBC but seems like the idea has some legs.
Question is: Would you want to start your day with Charlie? (Apparently, the NYPost doesn’t…they could not possibly have found a worse pic to run with that story.)
