The December 18 match-up between the Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots is scheduled to air on CBS in the afternoon. But that won’t happen if NBC gets its way. And it’s all Tim Tebow’s fault.NBC wants to exercise its right to “flex” the schedule and replace the Baltimore vs San Diego with the Broncos-Pats game, featuring one of the best teams in the NFL and the league’s biggest story, Tim Tebow.
Even though NBC has the right to “flex” any game that is not protected, CBS is fighting the move. They lost out on last weekend’s Broncos game also, which was moved to FOX. And unfortunately for CBS, they had to submit their protected games weeks ago, before the onset of Tebow-mania.
NBC is paying $650 million a year for the Sunday night package. And a major issue in negotiating that deal was the right to move more intriguing match-ups into the primetime slot. CBS may want Tebow. But they are going to have a hard time hanging on to him.
