Nice growth for CBS’s March Madness On Demand streaming service on the first day of the tournament.
- The gorgeous video player attracted 2.7 million unique visitors, up 56% year-over-year. (Though growth slowed from 122% y/y last year.)
- CBS streamed 2.8 million hours of audio and video, up 65% year-over-year. That’s about an hour of video per unique visitor.
- 1.5 million people clicked on the Comcast-sponsored “boss button” — up 25% from 1.2 million last year.
Meanwhile, TV ratings were up 9%.
This is good news for CBS and good news for Akamai Technologies (AKAM), the company CBS is paying to deliver its Web video.
