Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki has taken over as the No. 1-ranked female tennis player in the world, largely because Serena Williams hasn’t played a single match since winning Wimbledon back in July.

In fact, Wozniacki takes over despite not reaching a single Grand Slam final in 2010 and having no major championships under belt. That makes it rather difficult to trumpet the accomplishments of the person who allegedly sits atop the tennis world. As the UK Telegraph points out, Serena is still the one selling her own fashion line, getting snapped by beach paparazzi, and hanging out with Oprah. Wozniacki kept playing admirably while Serena vacationed, but the attractive, outgoing American is still the best bet for advertisers and gossips.

The lesson is that there’s more to being No. 1, than just being No. 1.
