The Chicago Cubs have no interest in hiring Ryne Sandberg to be its next manager. However, the Cubs’ hated rival, the St. Louis Cardinals, are expected to interview the Hall-of-Famer.Sandberg, who played 15 seasons on Chicago’s north side, managed in the Cubs’ minor league system for four seasons before moving to the Philadelphia Phillies’ triple-A team last year. However, that experience, and Sandberg’s ties to the Cubs organisation were not even good enough for an interview with Theo Epstein, who wants a manager with big league experience.

The Cardinals on the other hand, have been aggressive in their pursuit of Ryno. According to Toni Ginnetti of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Cards called Sandberg “almost immediately” after LaRussa announced his retirement. They have asked, and are expected to receive permission from the Phillies to interview Sandberg.

In his career, Sandberg his more home runs against the Cardinals (35) than any other team.
