California's Gas Price Nightmare In Two Maps

California’s gas prices have been surging in the last week thanks to supply disruptions and regulatory requirements. They hit an all-time high on Saturday.

Econbrowser’s James Hamilton points us to two maps.

The first is GasBuddy.com’s gas price heatmap. California clearly sticks out in terms of price.  Hamilton notes that the Golden State also faces much steeper gas taxes.

The second map is of U.S. energy pipelines via the World Factbook.  This speaks to the supply issue.  When California’s refineries are disrupted, there’s not much relief that can come from outside sources because pipelines into California are lacking.
