- Former Vice President Joe Biden endorsed Dianne Feinstein’s reelection campaign on Thursday.
- Feinstein is seeking a sixth term in the US Senate, despite a primary challenge from top state senator and progressive candidate Kevin de León.
Former Vice President Joe Biden endorsed Dianne Feinstein in her reelection bid for US Senate in California, delivering another blow to her upstart primary challenger, State Senate Pro Tempore Kevin de León.
Feinstein’s campaign announced Biden’s endorsement in a statement on Thursday, touting her other endorsements from top Democrats like Sen. Kamala Harris, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and former Sen. Barbara Boxer.
“I had the pleasure of serving alongside Dianne Feinstein in the Senate, and right away came to admire her hard work, preparation and effective advocacy for California and the progressive values we share,” Biden said. “She’s tenacious. She’s accomplished. And she’s exactly who we need in the Senate to stand up to this Administration and its Republican allies in Congress. Dianne is a dear friend, and I’m proud to endorse her for reelection.”
Biden’s endorsement comes after Feinstein failed to gain the endorsement of the California Democratic Party in February, which de León called “an astounding rejection of politics as usual.”
Regardless, de León is severely behind Feinstein in terms of overall fundraising and clout in the race. Feinstein, who at age 84 is seeking a sixth term in the Senate, started the race with nearly $US10 million on hand, while de León’s challenge from the left has raised just under $US500,000.
