A draft law has been written up by a parliamentary committee that may seek to ban the full Islamic veil in Italy, reports the BBC.This would make Italy the third European nation to ban the burqa, after France and Belgium.
The law is being proposed by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s central-right coalition. Offenders would face a fine of 150-300 euros ($213-426) and some kind of community service if they broke the ban.
The bill be voted on over summer recess.
