Texans Star Brian Cushing Might Have Blown Out His Knee On This Cheap Shot By The Jets

The Houston Texans fear that Pro Bowl linebacker Brian Cushing has a torn ACL after a questionable block by Jets lineman Matt Slauson last night.

The Houston Chronicle reports that the team is just waiting on an MRI to confirm the injury.

According to the rule, this is technically not an illegal chop block. Refs can only call a penalty on a chop block if the defensive player is being blocked and a second offensive player goes in and dives at his legs.

But this sort of play — diving at a guy’s knee from the side while he’s away from the ball — is certainly frowned upon by other NFL players.

Fellow linebacker Clay Matthews called out the NFL for not protecting linebackers from plays like these on Twitter:

Cushing is Houston’s second-best defensive player behind JJ Watt. It’ll be a huge blow if he’s out for the year.
