PayPal’s payments business Braintree has added Visa and Mastercard to its Android Pay and Apple Pay wallets in Australia.
The company already had American Express on the digital wallets through Braintree Direct and says the new additions will give customers greater choice at the checkout, in addition to offering PayPal, credit cards, and debit cards.
“With the majority of Australian consumers now shopping on mobile, it is becoming increasingly important for merchants to offer the most relevant and secure forms of payment,” Braintree’s local head, Carolyn Breeze, said.
“We have been an early partner to Android Pay and Apple Pay as their reach has expanded around the world, and we are excited to continue this growth alongside them.”
Mexican fast food chain Guzman y Gomez is one of the first Braintree merchants to integrate Apple Pay in Australia, which means customers can use it when they order from the app.
Guzman y Gomez co-founder Steven Marks said it was the next step for their app as the company pushes to be a technology market leader in food.
