It didn’t look good for England after Australia finished the first day of the Boxing Day test at 3/244 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

But the Brits had a huge morning session, taking five wickets to leave Australia scrambling at 8/326 before lunch.

Three of the five wickets were chopped on.

Australia didn’t fare any better after lunch, and were all out for for 327.

Australian captain Steve Smith was bowled by English debutant Tom Curran for 76.

It was Curran’s first test wicket, and also the first time Smith has been dismissed at the MCG since December, 2014.

Curan’s missed out on taking his first wicket on Day 1, when his dismissal of Dave Warner on 99 was a no ball.
