New Zealand Police say bomb threat at Auckland Airport was 'misunderstanding'

New Zealand Police have reportedly resolved a security incident at Auckland Airport, calling it a “misunderstanding”.

A spokesperson for Auckland Airport told Business Insider Australia that police were handling a bomb threat made by a passenger in the domestic terminal just before 5 p.m. Auckland time.

However, police clarified in a statement to the New Zealand Herald that the incident was a “misunderstanding” and that there is “no threat to the public.”

New Zealand is on high alert after a gunman opened fire at Muslim worshippers at the Al Noor and Linwood mosques in Christchurch on Friday. At least 50 people were killed, and dozens more remain in hospital. 

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern raised the national security threat level from low to high after the shooting which is being treated as a terror attack.
