Watch as an Australian politician switches from talking about sexual freedom to people being eaten by crocodiles

A short video of North Queensland federal MP Bob Katter is going viral after his bizarre rant about same-sex marriage and crocodiles eating people.

Katter – who once notoriously said he’d “walk backwards to Bourke” (about 1,600km) if there was a large gay community in his electorate – was asked about his stance on the same-sex marriage debate. His electorate of Kennedy was one of two in Queensland to deliver a majority no vote at 53.5% and Katter subsequently declared Australia was sold a “great, big fat lie” when it voted yes.

The media doorstop starts off well, with Katter joking, alluding to the Communist leader Mao Zedong, and using euphemisms to say people should be allowed sexual freedom to do what they want.

However mid-way through, his face clouds over in a scowl and he becomes terse and short, and he launches into a rant about people being attacked by crocodiles in his electorate.

Here’s the transcript.

I mean, you know, people are entitled to their sexual proclivities.

You know, I mean let there be a thousands blossoms bloom as far as I’m concerned.

But I ain’t spending any time on it, because in the meantime, every three months, a person is torn to pieces by a crocodile in north Queensland.
