If you’re bummed out that certain Android apps don’t have an iOS counterpart, you might have some good luck on the way.BlueStacks is a piece of software that lets you run Android apps on your Mac. It’s still very early in its development, but anyone with a Mac can download the alpha version of the software by heading here on their Mac.

We took a look at what BlueStacks had to offer.

Go to www.bluestacks.com from a Mac, then download and install the alpha version of the software

It places a new folder in your dock containing Android apps. Let's click on Angry Birds

Blue Stacks takes a minute to load...

Then it begins downloading Angry Birds...

And after a wait, Angry Birds starts up on our laptop

Boom! Angry Birds!

Let's try a more basic app like Twitter

And after we sign in...

...we're greeted with the Twitter interface we know and love

The verdict...

It's pretty cool that BlueStacks is letting us take a peek this early into its development. Keep in mind that it's not even in beta yet, so our critique should be taken with a grain of salt.

It runs a little slower than we'd like. We assume this is something that will get better with subsequent iterations. Additionally, you don't have access to Google Play's full library of apps. We'd love to be able to browse and download anything in the store, but since it's still very early in the game, that's not possible.

All in all, we're still blown away at the possibilities here. Our Mac laptop was running Android apps that we'd otherwise not have access to. We can't wait for the official release.
