Blake Lively had lunch yesterday with financier, venture capitalist and international man of mystery Vivi Nevo.According to the New York Post, during the lunch date at Michael’s (the Manhattan eatery of choice for media moguls) Lively ” and the wealthy investor’s intense discussion had other diners buzzing.”
Lively’s publicist said the meeting was strictly business, but woudn’t elaborate.
Of course the Post was quick to point out that Gossip Girl star just split with her longtime boyfriend, and Nevo also recently split with his longtime girlfriend, Chinese actress and star of ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ Zhang Ziyi.
Aviv “Vivi” Nevo won’t be happy he was spotted; apparently he is particularly averse to publicity.Nevo, who was born in Romania and grew up in Israel, is said to be a major shareholder in Time Warner.
But he’s shrouded in mystery.
The New York Times even wrote a profile about him entitled, “A Media Powerhouse Everyone and Nobody Knows.”
He’s buddies with Morgan Stanley chairman John Mack, former Citi chairman Dick Parsons and billionaire mogul Ron Perelman. And he was once the largest private investor in Goldman Sachs, so says the Times.
In fact, this is what Mack had to say about him:
He’s someone I’ve really liked. I trust him. He’s got great instincts for the business. He took the money his family left him and he really created this media, trading empire. At Credit Suisse we did a lot of trading business with him, either outright or with derivatives.
But former hedge-fund manager Stan Berk, remembers Nevo a little differently. He hired Nevo in the 80s after meeting him at a gym in L.A.
According to Berk, Nevo had some issues:
“His problem as an employee was that he had the attention span of a hummingbird on crack.. He had no interest in doing actual work. I couldn’t fire him against everyones advice because he was so entertaining he livened up the day.”
What did he do? “Nothing, that’s the whole point,” said Berk. “He really didn’t do anything. The people who worked for me were traders and assistants to traders, money management guys. He didn’t work full time. He couldn’t keep to a schedule.”
Either way, Nevo has made it come 2011. He’s besties with Wall Street top brass, but more importantly, he gets to do lunch with Miss Lively.
