RIM’s first phone running its next-generation operating system, QNX, is codenamed “Colt” and should be released in Q1 2012, BGR has learned.RIM just announced a new line of BlackBerrys running BlackBerry 7 OS last week. Those phones are due later this month.

But as we reported, BlackBerry 7 phones will not be able to upgrade to QNX, essentially making them obsolete for anyone who wants the latest and greatest features RIM has to offer.

BGR also learned that RIM is upgrading its servers to support email for QNX phones and the BlackBerry PlayBook, which also runs QNX. The PlayBook still doesn’t have native e-mail because the upgrades are taking longer than expected.
