BIZARRE: Groupon CEO Andrew Mason's Salary Is Just $756.72

Groupon CEO Andrew Mason’s annual base salary is $756.72, according to this SEC filing.

The company said, “At his own recommendation to the Compensation Committee, Mr.¬†Mason’s base salary rate for 2011 was reduced to $756.72, effective January¬†1, 2011.” It didn’t say why Mason chose that bizarre amount. (Groupon didn’t immediately return a message requesting comment.)

Mason got just $7,943 in compensation from Groupon in total last year. Of course, he cashed out $10 million in stock in 2011 before the daily deal company went public. And he owns 46 million Class A shares and 1 million Class B shares of GRPN.
