What’s better than going on trial for one robbery? Going on trial for two, if you’re serial thief Mark Burgin.Last week, Burgin was on trial in Tennessee for the 2009 knifepoint robbery of a man at a truck stop when he left the courthouse during lunch and allegedly stole $45,000 worth of jewelry from a nearby jewelry store, according to the AP.
A store clerk caught him wearing a Rolex, which he returned, but he fled the scene with several other pieces of jewelry moments later.
Authorities waited until after Burgin’s guilty verdict in the knifepoint robbery was delivered the next day to re-arrest him.
According to the AP:
The robbery was common knowledge around the courthouse, but Judge Robbie Beal kept the news from the jury while the trial wrapped up – other than to note that Friday’s lunch break wouldn’t be as long.
