Three days after his two-day-old son died, Doncaster Rover striker Billy Sharp’s scored a fantastic goal against Middlesbrough yesterday.
Doncaster’s coach said after the match that Sharp insisted that he played so he could score a goal for his son.
“Billy rang me on Monday night and asked to play,” he told the Telegraph. “He wanted to score a goal for his son and his family and I couldn’t refuse.”
After the goal Sharp pulled up his jersey to reveal a t-shirt that said, “That’s for you, son.” The referee decided not to give him the mandatory yellow card for removing his jersey.
