NYT executive editor Bill Keller does not like Fox News.
At a New York Press Club Q&A session yesterday Keller told the audience he does not have a very high opinion Fox New viewers, also known as the largest group of viewers in cable news:
“I think if you’re a regular viewer of Fox News, you’re among the most cynical people on planet Earth,” Keller snarled. “I cannot think of a more cynical slogan than ‘Fair and Balanced’ “
A pretty sweeping statement (and needless to say a tenuous one…how would you measure that?) and one that will not doubt feed into every stereotype certain quarters of Fox News has about the NYT.
But perhaps not a terribly surprising one considering back in September of 2009 the NYT found itself so far behind the ACORN debacle it had to assign an editor to watch Fox News.
Meanwhile, Keller also told the audience the much (much)-talked about pay wall should arrive in a “matter of weeks.” Keller also found himself at a loss for words when asked to justify the print version.
